Will Kuala Lumpur's Air Pollutant Index (API) fall below 120 this week?

About Market

Market Summary

This market concerns whether the Air Pollutant Index (API) measured across Kuala Lumpur will return below 120 during the remainder of the week ending 20 September 2026, following a period in which haze has pushed conditions above that reference level. The 120-point mark is a clear focal point because it sits within Malaysia’s official unhealthy API range and provides a uniform numerical signal of whether conditions in the federal territory have materially eased. Traders are assessing the timing and persistence of pollutant dispersion, local weather, official monitoring data, and regional haze transport to judge whether Kuala Lumpur reaches that milestone before the weekly cutoff takes effect.

Rules
  1. Market Outcomes and Resolution Criteria: This market resolves to YES if the Department of Environment (DOE) reports an API below 120 for both Batu Muda, W.P. KUALA LUMPUR and Cheras, W.P. KUALA LUMPUR in the same official hourly reporting period from START through EndDate. It resolves to NO if no such reporting period occurs. It resolves to TIE only under Rule 5.

  2. Definition of Air Pollutant Index and Kuala Lumpur: “API below 120” means a published API value of 0–119; a value of exactly 120 does not qualify. “Kuala Lumpur” means only the two DOE stations labelled Batu Muda, W.P. KUALA LUMPUR and Cheras, W.P. KUALA LUMPUR; readings from Putrajaya, Selangor, or any other location are excluded. “Haze” is operationally represented solely by these API readings; no separate finding about the pollution source is required.

  3. Official Sources and Evidence: The primary source is DOE’s MyEQMS/APIMS official current-reading display and its official records: https://eqms.doe.gov.my/APIMS/main. DOE’s official API information and reputable contemporaneous reporting may corroborate a result, but cannot override the DOE station readings.

  4. Resolution Timing: The market is checked against each official hourly publication. A YES result resolves no sooner than 24 hours after the qualifying official report; a NO result resolves no sooner than 2026-09-21 15:59:59 UTC. Any MyEQMS/APIMS time displayed in Malaysian time must be converted from UTC+8 to UTC for this market.

  5. Handling Data Interruptions and Corrections: The market is not extended beyond EndDate. It resolves to TIE if DOE records necessary to determine the outcome are unavailable, materially conflicting, or remain genuinely ambiguous 24 hours after EndDate; in the event of a TIE resolution, all positions settle at $0.50 per share. A DOE correction published during the 24-hour resolution window replaces the earlier reading.

  6. Ambiguities and Disputes: DOE’s final official station record takes precedence over all secondary evidence. If a station is renamed, its DOE record is eligible only if DOE expressly identifies it as the successor to the specified Kuala Lumpur station; otherwise, unresolved ambiguity is handled under Rule 5.
