What Will Powell Say During His October Press Conference?

About Market

Market Summary

This market predicts whether Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell will explicitly mention specific key terms during his October 2025 post-FOMC press conference, including both introductory remarks and the Q&A session.

Each submarket corresponds to one keyword — “Shutdown,” “Gold,” or “Recession” — and resolves based on whether that word (or its plural or possessive form) is explicitly spoken by Powell during the address.

The primary source for verification is the official Federal Reserve video recording and transcript of the October 2025 press conference.
If ambiguity remains, secondary verification may come from trusted news transcripts and financial publications.

The market will close on October 29, 2025, at 18:00 UTC. Final resolution for all markets will occur no later than October 30, 2025, 23:59 UTC.

Rules
  1. Market Outcomes and Resolution Criteria: The market resolves to YES if Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell explicitly says the word “shutdown” (or a plural or possessive form such as shutdowns’) during his October 2025 post-FOMC meeting introductory remarks or Q&A. It resolves to NO if Powell does not say the term during the event, or if the event does not occur before October 30, 2025, 23:59 UTC.
  2. Measurement Basis: Verification is based on the official video and transcript of the October 2025 Federal Reserve press conference.
Only the Chair’s own words qualify — mentions by journalists or other speakers do not count.
  3. Eligible Resolution Timing: Resolution occurs once the official video or transcript is released and reviewed, no later than October 30, 2025, 23:59 UTC.
  4. Data Sources: Primary: Federal Reserve official press conference video and transcript (https://www.federalreserve.gov). Secondary (verification only): Reuters, Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times.
  5. Resolution in Edge Cases: If the video is delayed, transcripts or official press briefings from the Federal Reserve will be used. If there is any dispute over interpretation, the first official transcript or Federal Reserve communication confirming the spoken word determines resolution.
  6. Discrepancies: Conflicting reports are resolved using the Federal Reserve’s own transcript or video as final authority. Secondary sources are used only for verification or clarification.
