Will Apple Release a Foldable iPhone by September 30, 2026?

About Market

MARKET SUMMARY

This market centers on whether Apple will officially release a foldable iPhone — or a foldable smartphone functionally equivalent to one — and make it available for public purchase before the end of September 2026, a milestone that would mark Apple's entry into the foldable device category that rivals Samsung, Huawei, and Google have occupied for several years. The foldable iPhone has been one of the most widely anticipated and repeatedly rumored product launches in consumer technology, with Apple's deliberate pace of hardware innovation making its timeline a subject of sustained analyst and trader interest. Traders are evaluating the likelihood of a qualifying release within the specified window, weighing supply chain signals, leaks, Apple's historical product announcement cadence, and broader market conditions in the premium smartphone segment.

RULES
  1. Market Outcomes and Resolution Criteria: This market resolves to "Yes" if Apple officially releases a qualifying foldable device available for public purchase on or before September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET (2026-10-01 03:59 UTC). It resolves to "No" if no such release occurs within the specified timeframe.
  2. Definition of "Released": A device is considered released when it is available for purchase by the general public — meaning any individual can complete a transaction to acquire the product through Apple's official retail or online channels. An announcement, unveiling, pre-order opening, or developer preview alone does not constitute a release. A qualifying device need not be explicitly branded "iPhone"; any foldable smartphone officially released by Apple within the timeframe counts.
  3. Official Sources and Evidence: The primary resolution source is official statements and product listings from Apple (apple.com). A consensus of credible reporting — including The Verge, Bloomberg, Reuters, and 9to5Mac — may be used for corroboration where Apple's official channels are ambiguous or delayed.
  4. Resolution Timing: The market resolves no sooner than 24 hours after the resolution deadline of September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or within 24 hours of a qualifying release being confirmed, whichever comes first.
  5. Handling Edge Cases: If Apple makes a device available in limited regions or through carrier exclusivity arrangements, it still qualifies as a public release provided any member of the general public can purchase it through official channels within the resolution window. Enterprise-only, developer-only, or invitation-only availability does not qualify.
  6. Ambiguities and Disputes: In the event of conflicting evidence, Apple's official product pages and press releases take precedence over all other sources. Credible reporting is used only where Apple's official communications are absent or unclear. If Apple's release timing is disputed due to regional availability differences, the earliest confirmed public availability date in any market is used for resolution.
