Will ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ exceed $95M in U.S. Opening Weekend Box Office?

About Market

Market Summary

This market centers on whether The Devil Wears Prada 2 will surpass $95 million in U.S. opening weekend box office gross, a threshold that would place it among the top-performing wide-release films and sequels in recent years. The $95 million benchmark serves as a meaningful indicator of mainstream commercial success for a follow-up to the beloved 2006 original, reflecting audience demand, franchise strength, and the drawing power of its returning cast and creative team in the current theatrical landscape. Traders are weighing pre-release tracking data, marketing momentum, competitive box office conditions, and historical performance of comparable legacy sequels to assess the probability of the film clearing this revenue milestone in its domestic opening frame.

Rules

1. Market Outcomes and Resolution Criteria: The market resolves YES if The Devil Wears Prada 2 records a U.S. domestic opening weekend gross strictly exceeding $95,000,000; it resolves NO if the reported gross is $95,000,000 or below. There is no TIE outcome; the market resolves only to YES or NO.

2. Definition of "U.S. Opening Weekend": For resolution purposes, "U.S. opening weekend" refers to the 3-day domestic theatrical gross (Friday May 1 through Sunday May 3, 2026) of The Devil Wears Prada 2's wide release debut in the United States. Any preview screenings held before Friday May 1 are excluded unless Box Office Mojo incorporates them into the official 3-day figure.

3. Official Sources and Evidence: The primary source is Box Office Mojo (boxofficemojo.com) for the official domestic opening weekend gross. The Numbers (the-numbers.com) may be used as a secondary source for corroboration only. Studio-reported estimates released Sunday evening are accepted provisionally; if the confirmed Monday actuals differ, the Monday actuals govern final resolution.

4. Resolution Timing: The market resolves based on the confirmed Monday actuals published on May 4, 2026. It resolves no sooner than 4 hours after the official Monday actuals are published on Box Office Mojo on May 4, 2026, to allow for final figures to propagate and be verified. Sunday May 3 studio estimates do not trigger early resolution; only confirmed actuals govern.

5. Handling Postponements and Cancellations: If The Devil Wears Prada 2's U.S. theatrical release is delayed beyond May 3, 2026, the market resolves NO. If the film opens in limited release only and no wide-release opening weekend figure is reported by the primary source, the market resolves NO. A release date shift that still falls within the May 1–3, 2026 window does not affect market validity provided a qualifying opening weekend figure is reported.

6. Ambiguities and Disputes: In cases of discrepancies between studio estimates and reported actuals, the Monday May 4 confirmed actuals as published by Box Office Mojo take precedence. If Box Office Mojo publishes a correction or revision to the opening weekend figure after initial reporting, the most recently published confirmed figure governs resolution. If no actuals are published by 23:59 UTC on May 4, 2026, the Sunday May 3 studio estimate is used as the governing figure.
